"I’m not speaking about confrontation. I stress that our priority is the protection of our rights, the rights of our citizens abroad. This task was assigned by the President, the head of our State, and now we have been implementing this initiative. My letter should to be understood as the concern about the situation, the negative trend being observed in recent years. We are not concerned about the number of visas, we are concerned about the quality, the way in which these visas are issued.
The dignity of our citizens should not be brought into question. The visas should be issued under the Visa Code and the effective bilateral agreements between Ukraine and the EU," he said.
Eliseev is also disturbed by the procedure of the visas issuance. “You know, you can obtain a visa, but before you may go through all possible bureaucratic obstacles. For me, it is important that a visa is issued quickly, efficiently and without any violation of human dignity," the Ambassador said.
"There is already the first reaction to this letter. Soon, I’m going to meet the Commissioner to discuss the specific cases of violations of the rights of our citizens during the visas issuance," Eliseev said.
