The Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine Hans-Jurgen Gaymzet does not agree with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov on that Ukraine is unable to develop alternative energy, he told a briefing after the EU Sustainable Energy Week opening ceremony, ForUm correspondent reports.

"We (Germany - Ed.) are the industrialized country and our success did not considerably depend on the energy saving," he said.

"I have a great respect for Mr. Azarov, but I will not agree with his opinion. At my estimate, Ukraine spends 16 billion euros on energy subsidies. This means Ukraine has enough means. This is a very unproductive use of resources. Ukraine needs to reduce the conventional energy consumption at least by quarter," he stressed.

The Ambassador also added that today Germany is a leader in implementing energy efficient technologies for climate protection from the greenhouse effects.

As a reminder, the Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said that Ukraine needs more than 20 billion UAH for the alternative energy development. That’s why he noted that Ukraine is not as rich as Germany to develop alternative energy.
