In the capital, on June 22, the first monument to Mother Widow in Ukraine will be opened in Victory Park on the day of mourning and commemorating the victims of the Great Patriotic War.
According to the press service of Kyiv City State Administration with reference to the Vice-President of KCSA Leonid Novohatko, the city government supported the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, which decided to implement a public initiative to establish such memorial. Headed by Borys Oliynyk the Foundation has been collecting funds for the realization of people's ideas for three years.
"Women carried a great weight during the war. The idea was to monumentalize the woman as a mother, who brought up children being a widow; as a wife, who sent her husband to the front line, and he didn’t return from the war, "said Novohatko.
Four-meter-high sculpture has been created by young sculptors, teachers of the Art Institute of the National Academy of Fine Arts Andriy Baloga and Constantyn Dobrianskyi, who decided to join the community initiative.
