Health Ministry of Ukraine had been backing the draft bill on smoking ban in public places for the whole time of its development and till it was finally adopted. In its statement the Health Ministry says the state must protect its people from tobacco smoke at working places, in public transport or closed public places.
The new law comes in force on December, 2012.
The Health Ministry has called upon the citizens to study closely the norms of the new law, so the smokers know where they can smoke legally and so non-smokers understand that the state protects their rights for clean air.
On May 24 the parliament of Ukraine adopted the draft bill on smoking ban in public places and on June 13 the President signed it into law.
