EU Deputy Secretary General of the External Action Service Maciej Popowski stresses again the need for compliance of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Ukraine with the international standards.

"These elections will be a kind of indicator for us and we will monitor them closely," Popowski said, reporting on Wednesday within the framework of the inter-parliamentary meeting of the Committee on cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in Strasbourg.

The European politician assured that Brussels attaches much significance to the holding of elections in accordance with international standards. In this regard, he said that the EU officials are aware of the new Ukrainian election law and some of its provisions are considered to be unconstitutional in terms of establishing the boundaries of the new constituencies.

"Our member countries would like to send as many observers as possible to these elections," Popowski underlined.
