The parliamentary elections in Ukraine have to be held honestly and transparently, with the observance of democratic norms, the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said during the meeting with the candidates for the heads of district state administrations, ForUm correspondent learned from the President’s press office.

"It is important for the government that these elections are transparent and honest and that we protect the rights of our voters," he said. He emphasized that any pressure on voters is inadmissible and that the government is to provide all the conditions for the free expression of the will of citizens.

Yanukovych has outlined the tasks of the local authorities within the pre-election preparations, the preparation of the polling stations and ensuring public order, in particular. "These tasks should be over your special control," he said, referring to all the present.

As a reminder, the parliamentary elections are scheduled for October 28, 2012.
