In one month, the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine identified over ten thousand heads of cattle, the chairman of the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service Volodymyr Gorzheev said during a press conference, the ForUm correspondent reports.

"As for today, our service has carried out a lot of work, which can be compared, perhaps, with a census of the population only," Gorzheev said.

He said the agency has developed amendments to the draft law on the mandatory animal identification. According to them, the people raising the cattle for their own needs must identify the cattle. "This procedure is necessary for everybody, as any infected animal is dangerous for the state," he said.

According to the chairman of the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine, this procedure will become cheaper. Thus, for example, a veterinary passport and a card will cost up to one hryvnia. In addition, he reminded that the major diseases the cattle suffer remain to be rabies, African swine fever, Newcastle disease and trichinellosis. The epizootic situation with respect to tuberculosis, leukemia and charbon has improved.
