Only 20% of Ukraianin youth has knosledge of transmission ways of HIV/AIDS, the chairman of the Yaremenko Ukrainian Institute of Social Studies Olha Balakireva told the presentation of the results of the UNICEF study on the prevalence and trends of tobacco, alcohol and drug consumption among the teenagers in Ukraine.
"In 2007 the figures showed 22%, but as of today we do not see any progress in the outreach and awareness-raising work on HIV," the official said.
Balakireva also noted that Ukrainian youth starts sex life earlier with every passing year and does not care much about protection. According to the official, less than a half of teenagers know where to address to undergo test on HIV/AIDS.
"Ukrainian youth also does not trust much anonymous assistance lines. The level of distrust in getting anonymous and confidential information is very high," the specialist noted.
