The central district court of Mykolaiv has started closed hearings on the case of rape and murder of Oksana Makar. During the preliminary hearings the defense team of the accused motioned for closed trial and the court, consisting of three presiding judges, agreed with the appeal.

However, the state prosecution will challenge the decision once again motioning for the hearings to be at least partially open.

According to state prosecutor of the case Yaroslav Kryvoviaz, at this point the court has to settle a number of procedural issues, hence the prosecution will use an opportunity to motion for open trial.
As reported, Oksana Makar, 19-year-old girl was raped, burned alive and left in a street to die. She survived the night and was delivered to a hospital with 55% of burns. Despite the intensive care treatment the girl died after several days of lungs bleeding.

Three suspects of the attempted murder were charged with rape and an attempt to cover the crime. Following the girl's death the case was reclassified into intended murder. The article of the Criminal Code on intended murder provides for life sentence.
