In the near future, the dues on imported foreign-made cars are to be increased, the economy development and trade minister of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko told a Cabinet’s briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

He explained that such a step is aimed at the protection of domestic producers within the crisis time when other countries also protect their producers.

"The situation on the cars is absolutely transparent. The production of automobiles has been significantly reduced in the past three years. The country lost more than 12 thousand jobs, while the share of imported cars in the of the country's balance of payments deficit makes up a significant part. It is impossible not to react to this fact. The relative commission's decision has been taken and now we are negotiating with our trading partners.
