The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn expects the process of the final adoption of the language policy draft law to drag on for at least 25 days, as Lytyvn told a briefing in the Parliament, a ForUm correspondent reported.

The Speaker mentioned that by putting the draft law to a vote this morning he has not violated the norms of the Parliament’s regulations, which requires voting on a bill that has already been discussed.

Lytvyn also added that personally he is against this draft law and that its passing may take at least 25 days: the MPs have the right to amend the draft law within 15 days, and 10 days are given for the preparation to the second reading in the relevant committee. “There is no much time left, only two plenary weeks,” (except the current one - ed.) he said.

As reported, the Parliament of Ukraine has passed today in its first reading the draft law on the principles of the national language policy by MPs Vadym Kolesnichenko and Serhiy Kivalov.
