“The EU does not intend to boycott Euro 2012 in Ukraine. We are interested in the success of this football championship as it will promote the popularity of Ukraine and friendship between the Ukrainians and the European fans,” the President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy told in the interview on the eve of the EU-Russia summit to be held in Streln on June 3-4.

"The European Union and the European financial institutions which we support have worked hard to help prepare for this competition," van Romuy said.

As reported, a number of European presidents, namely the Presidents of Estonia, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia decided not to participate in the Central European countries summit in Yalta scheduled for May 11 - 12, but cancelled by the Ukrainian authorities due to small attendance.
