Speaking at the III European-Ukrainian Energy Day, head of the state agency on energy saving and energy sufficiency Mykola Pashkevych informed that EU financial assistance would be aimed at energy saving projects in the sphere of budget and communal heat power engineering.

"At the end of 2011 Ukraine received 31 million euro of financial assistance from the European Union. The means have been converted into the national currency (324.8 million UAH) and put on a special account of the State treasure for further use in the energy saving projects of the state heat power industry," the official specified.

In particular, the means are aimed first of all for the projects on modernization of equipment and introduction of new energy efficient technologies, which would reduce the volumes of technological consumption and wastage.

The official informed that the state budget fund of Ukraine also takes its share in the projects, allotting 119.3 million hryvnais. "Altogether it makes 444.1 million hryvnais or 56% of the total means of the State economic program on energy efficiency and energy saving," the official explained.

According to Pashkevych, the document on means distribution is under consideration by the Justice Ministry, waiting for approval.
