In one year former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko may be set free on parole for his good behavior, Party of Regions MP Valery Bondyk stated on the air of Channel 5.

"Since he is sentenced to four years of imprisonment, and he has already done one and a half, Lutsenko has all chances to go free on parole for good behavior. I say it as a lawyer, but I should not say it at all," the official said.

The MP added when the sentence comes into effect, only the Penitentiary Service has a right to make decisions on the prisoner transferring.

As a reminder, Lutsenko was detained on December 26, 2010. The Prosecutor General's Office accused him of misappropriation of state property in especially big amount and abuse of power.

On February 27, 2012, Kyiv Pechersk district court sentenced Mr. Lutsenko to 4-year imprisonment with confiscation of property (643 thousand UAH compensation for damage done to to the MIF for damages), with disqualification to hold senior positions and rank of government official.

On May 16, the Kyiv Court of Appeals recognized the sentence to Lutsenko as a lawful one.
