Increasing judges’ independence and work effectiveness is one of the key
components of Ukraine’s development, President Viktor Yanukovych said
at today’s ceremony of swearing in newly appointed judges, ForUm learned from the presidentail press office.
"Our goal is bringing the judicial system of Ukraine in line with the best international standards and improving the image and prestige of the legal profession," he said.
The President expressed confidence that Ukrainian society needs educated judges who are able to take a principled stance in the defense of citizens’ interests.
Viktor Yanukovych stressed that the authorities make every effort to improve the legal, social and financial guarantees of judges’ independence.
"I think that an independent judge is first of all an educated judge whose professionalism is the key to accessible, equitable and fair justice," he said.
