Border guards should enhance security of Ukrainian border, however the procedure of border crossing should be convenient, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych told during his visit to mobile border detachment in Bortnychi, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.
“You should boost security of state border. Meanwhile, the interests of the law-abiding citizens of Ukraine and other countries should be safeguarded. The border should remain transparent and its crossing should be convenient. This is my personal position,” he emphasized.
The President noted that for the past 10 years the State Border guard service has passed a difficult but successful way resulting in the establishment of a brand new law-enforcement special purpose institution based on border troops.
The Head of the state expressed confidence that today it is necessary to strengthen countermeasures to combat international criminal organizations. “The board guards are in the forefront of the battle with drugs and arms trafficking, trafficking of radioactive and other dangerous materials and illegal migration,” Yanukovych said.
The President also pointed out the necessity to fight corruption. “Corruption in Border guard service as well as in other law-enforcement bodies is a direct threat to national interests,” the Head of the state emphasized.
