Ukraine holds principal position in gas talks with Russia and has no intention to surrender its national interests, energy and coal minister of Ukraine Yuri Boiko told a roundtable Friday.

He noted that the talks with Russia continue. "We had rounds of talks before Yanukovych's visit to Russia and after it. I want to say that if these questions were simple we would have already settled them. The talks last so long because Ukraine holds principle position following the President's task to establish partner relations with Russia. If we work with the Russian side we will do it as partners. We do not want pittances from Russia, but partner relationships," Boiko said.

The minister added that the government would work as much as needed to defend national interests and economy.
