With the launch of the Russian-European gas pipeline Nord Stream, Ukraine has lost 15% in income that it used to receive for the transit of Russian gas to Europe, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said in an interview with the German newspaper Handelsblatt, UKRINFORM reports.

"Because of the new Nord Stream we have lost approximately 15% of previous incomes," he said.

The Ukrainian prime minister called "absurd" the fact that Ukraine pays Russia for gas double the price than Germany. "But Russia pays us only half of the transit cost," Azarov emphasized.

According to him, Ukraine, Russia and the EU should enter into a tripartite gas contract for 10 years to conjointly control the transit routes.
