Within three-five years the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine plan to fully modernize the infrastructure of children's camps, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said at a meeting with representatives of public organizations on children's rights protection, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the PM, for the years of independence Ukraine has lost tens of children's summer recovery camps. "If in 1990 there were enough places for 470 thousand children to visit simultaneously, last year there was room only for less than 200 thousand, while we have more than eight million children of school age," the Premier said.

"The majority of camps are of Soviet times. They are not adapted and need reconstruction," Azarov said and added that nevertheless the government manages to improve the provision of recovery and summer camps for children. The PM specified that this year the government would allocate about one billion hryvnais for this initiative.

Azarov informed that the Cabinet sets three principle tasks. "The first one is to provide high-quality holidays for maximum number of children. The second one is to focus on recovery of socially vulnerable children (orphans, invalid, Chornobyl victims). As for the third, in 2012 the government starts modernization of the net of children's camps," the Premier said.
