According to the optimistic scenario Ukraine can fully provide itself with shale gas till 2020 and then can start export it, ecology minister Eduard Stavitski told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

He reminded that companies Shell and Chevrov won the contest on exploration of Yuzovski and Olesski gas fields in Ukraine. The official assured the contest was transparent, but the information about all five participants cannot be published, as it is for official use only.

Stavitski also informed that shale gas extraction does put at risk the ecology of the regions, and that the companies promised not to harm the ecology of Ukraine.

The minister underlined that thanks to these projects Ukraine will get "tens of billions of dollars of investments". "Besides, Ukrainian enterprises, like pipe producers and metallurgists, will also take part in the projects," he said.

The minister believes that by the end of this year the agreements on distribution of production will be signed. "Test drilling on Yuzovski field will start in 2013, and the industrial production will be formally established before 2015. Test drilling on Olesski field will start in 2014, and the industrial production - before 2016," he said.

Stavitski believes that final agreements with the winners will be signed.

As for the alienation of the land, companies will offer good money for renting the land for 10-15 years and then promise to return it renewed and reclaimed. One platform with 20 drill holes will occupy 0.5 hectares of land.
