President Viktor Yanukovych considers cooperation between our country and the Customs Union member-states promising in many areas, he said speaking at today’s informal Summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Moscow.

According to the President, it includes cooperation in energy, engineering, high-tech, etc. "Such cooperation, above all, should be based on the principle of equality of all member-states of the Commonwealth. We are seeking such a model of cooperation, which would take our country’s national interests into account, as well as those of the member-states of these new associations," he said.

The President added that Ukraine is closely following the formation and development of mechanisms of deeper economic integration in the CIS, including the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space. "Our experts study the regulatory framework of the Customs Union and its experience, analyze the initiative of transforming the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space into the Eurasian Economic Union," said Viktor Yanukovych. Ukraine constantly monitors the activities of new integration organizations in the CIS and is ready to establish effective interaction with them, President Viktor Yanukovych told journalists in Moscow.

The President stressed that Ukraine is interested in establishing mutually beneficial cooperation with these associations. "I also hope that the Commonwealth of Independent States will remain that common platform for us to effectively develop multilateral cooperation taking into account the interests of all the participating states and certain countries’ membership in the Customs Union, the EurAsEC, and the Eurasian Economic Union," concluded the President.
