With the help of prompt actions and changes to the legislation in Ukraine it will be possible to fight the high level of consumption of alcohol and tobacco among minors, President's aid on children's rights Yuri Pavlenko told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

'The plan of actions has already been developed. Our actions are aimed at detection of selling points of alcohol and tobacco to minors with further prosecution of officials, responsible for this. In addition, we are preparing changes to the legislation to toughen responsibility for such crime," he said.

"For every eight children we have one selling point," Pavlenko informed and added that the forbidden goods are being sold to children in the so-called kiosks during evening and night time.

"We are developing a number of new measures, including the increase of fine by ten times, up to 70 thousand hryvnias, with deprivation of the license. Moreover, we are thinking to suspend licenses for a certain period of time - three years for example, so this entrepreneur could not apply immediately for another one," he said.

According to the official, the government is also considering to cancel the norm on obligatory notification ten days before the actual inspection. "We must react immediately," Pavlenko said.

In her turn, deputy head of the relevant department of the Tax service of Ukraine Janna Kravtsova informed that according to the statistic minors prefer low-alcoholic drinks, and that last year Ukraine's alcohol enterprises produced 600 thousand decalitres of low-alcoholic drinks more comparing to previous years. "Such fact is very scary," she said.

Pavlenko has confirmed that beer and low-alcoholic drinks are becoming a problem. According to him, the government should find a compromise with producers to solve this problem.
