Party of Regions faction leader Oleksandr Yefremov proposed to include into agenda of this plenary week the draft bill on language issue, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the MP, this draft bill fully meets the European Charter on regional and minority languages and takes into account all recommendations, voiced out by foreign experts.

In his turn, MP from BYuT Volodymyr Yavorivski spoke against the consideration of the draft bill and recommended to postpone this issue, as certain norms of the draft bill put at risk the statehood of Ukrainian language.

"There is a norm, which says that if 10% of the population of this or that region speaks non-state language, this language becomes the second state language in the region," the MP explained. According to Yavorivski, according to the norm the Russian language will become the second state language in many regions of Ukraine.

Following the discussion, speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn proposed not to hurry with the adoption of this draft bill.
