Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov declared at today's Cabinet session that fines for violation of ecological legislation are too low, ForUm correspondent reports.

"General ecological situation in Ukraine remains complicated. There are a number of mass ecological problems, including accumulation of industrial and household waste, absence of technologies on waste utilization, unauthorized constructions on rivers' banks, illegal forest destruction and unauthorized construction on forest zones. Sanctions and penalties are not big enough to stop the violators.
Besides, the soil becomes poor due to imbalance in crop rotation, when year after year the same areas are planted with rape and sunflower," the Premier said.

Azarov added that responsibility of officials, who authorize illegal constructions, must be toughened.
