Prime Minister Mykola Azarov is demanding that chairmen of regional state administrations focus on providing environmental control in the regions.

The head of government expressed this demand during a conference call at the Ministry of Environment, UKRINFORM reported.

"I want to draw the attention of regional state administration chairmen to topics such as illegal logging, illegal dumps, illegal construction, pollution of water and air in excess of standards, along with economy of the regions, along with the social sphere, along with security. All these topics are most important for you, and the Government will seriously ask you about them," Mykola Azarov said.

According to him, governors' activities will be judged not only by economic performance, but also by the environmental situation in their regions. Indeed, the ecological state of the region is an important component of assessing the quality of life, along with such indicators as access to housing, good nutrition and employment opportunities, the Prime Minister said.
