After Vladimir Putin's inauguration the development of Ukrainian-Russian relations will continue, Russian ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov believes.

"Ukraine has been and remains the closest strategic partner for Russia...We expect that the election of Putin as president will give new impetus to Ukrainian-Russian relations," Zurabov said Monday in Kyiv during the live broadcast of Putin's inauguration.

The ambassador also opined that the first thing after the inauguration Putin will send an invitation to Viktor Yanukovych to CIS summit to be held in Moscow on May 15.

"I can say with certainty that the first document for Putin to sign as the president will be the invitation for Yanukovych to the informal summit of CIS to be held in Moscow on May 15," Zurabov said.
