President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski believes that the calls of a number of European politicians to boycott Euro-2012 in Ukraine are inadequate to the current situation and cause damage to Poland.

Speaking on national TV on Wednesday, Bronislaw Komorowski said that there were similar cases of persecution of presidents and ministers in some countries of old democracies, but those events never led to boycott of sport tournaments. The official also stressed that the crackdown on opposition in Ukraine is not comparable to events which prompted previous Western boycotts - of the Moscow Olympics in 1980 and the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

"These were the effects of war which Russia launched against Afghanistan or the bloody repression of Tibetans' aspirations for freedom, where blood was spilt, where there were mass arrests, jailing and so on. But the situation in Ukraine is not like that. We all understand this perfectly. So it is possible to speculate there are some other calculations being made."

The Polish President admitted he is concerned over the attempts to ruin the festival of Euro-2012 and added that all efforts, spent means and developments of both countries are at risk.
