Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn announced this on Wednesday during his working visit to Zhytomyr region, while commenting on the possibility of moving "the Ukrainian part” of the championship to Spain, UKRINFORM reports.
"EURO 2012 should be held in Ukraine and Poland. Full stop! If you want - an exclamation point," the speaker said.
At the same time, he said that "the escalation of negativism and fear is inappropriate." According to the parliament speaker, "everything will be held according to schedule, but nobody says that we do not have any problems."
"We are a living community, a living organism. I think that we need to address these issues from such considerations," Lytvyn said.
As reported, several media reported that President of the Spanish Football Federation Angel Maria Villar allegedly offered the leadership of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to hold "the Ukrainian part” of EURO 2012 in Spain. Such a probability arouse because of a series of attacks that hit the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipropetrovsk on April 27, as well as in connection with the case of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
At the same time, UEFA Chief Operating Officer Martin Kallen rejected the probability of holding the European football championship in Spain, noting that this is unrealistic, because the tournament starts in less than 40 days.
