Modernization of nuclear energy blocks will be carried out at the expense of loans, energy and coal minister Yuri Boiko said after the meeting on energy security, ForUm correspondent reports.

In response to the question about the source of financing, Boiko underlined that the national commission on energy control would not increase tariffs for energy, produced by nuclear power plants, in order to find money for modernization.

"We do not set a task to shuffle off the tariffs on consumers. The task is to get a loan from "Euroatom" and EBRD. We are completing the application procedure and expect to get about a billion dollars for modernization of our blocks," the official said.

The minister noted that the stress would be laid on loans, and Ukraine would sign a corresponding credit agreement by the year end.
