The Premier noted that the growth of energy production at nuclear plants should not be carried out to the prejudice of security of nuclear structures.
"We have proofs through the example of Chernobyl that risks are not justified, and that losses due to such risks exceed by many times the amount of expenses for security. My demand is simple: all requirements of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) must be met, and maintenance tasks must be carried out fast and to a good quality. If such works require shutdown of energy blocks, the government is ready to support the decision, while Energy and Coal Ministry will have to provide for this period balanced consumption of energy in the country," Azarov underlined.
