Today, on the 26th anniversary of the accident at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych addressed the nation paying tribute to the victims of the biggest industrial disaster of the XX century and bowing the head before those, who saved the world from the deadly threat, and those who still faces the challenge of overcoming the disaster consequences, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

"The pain of Chornobyl still echoes and reminds of itself years after. Therefore, we do not stop our efforts to keep the confinement over the destroyed fourth power unit safe. And Ukraine feels the friendly helping hand of the whole world in dealing with this problem.

Providing social security, healthcare, and improved living conditions for more than two million citizens-victims of Chornobyl, especially children and persons with disabilities, is our daily concern.

I believe that the consolidated action of the government and of the caring people will help overcoming the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster step by step," Yanukovych said in his address.
