For today the financial assistance to Chernobyl liquidators of Ukraine is not bad, vice PM and minister for social policy Serhiy Tihipko told a briefing in the Cabinet, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the official, if to analyze their position and compare it with other "social" categories of the population, Chernobyl liquidators are doing not so bad.

"It's enough to compare their pensions with the average pension in the country. As of April 1, the Chernobyl liquidators of the first group of disability get UAH 5234 a month, liquidators of the second group of disability get UAH 4778 and the third group - 2979. Earlier the average pension for the Chernobyl liquidators of the first group of disability was UAH 2200, for the second group - UAH 1964 and for the third - UAH 1513. We have taken a big step forward," the official said.

Tihipko also added that the financing of the programs on housing and medical assistance, including prostheses provision, for Chernobyl liquidators has been increased.
