Five Ukrainian citizens from the Italian ship Enrico Ievoli have been freed from pirates, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryshchenko has written on his blog on Twitter, according to UKRINFORM.
"I have already given an instruction to assist them in returning to Ukraine. I am particularly pleased that there are currently no Ukrainian sailors held by pirates," he said.
According to Maritime Bulletin-Sovfracht, as of the beginning of this year, Somali pirates held 145 sailors on board seven merchant vessels, including six citizens of Ukraine (the Enrico Ievoli tanker).
