Ukraine's spending on Russia gas is more than total annual expenses on health care, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said, visiting the Kyiv center of radiation medicine, ForUm learned from the Cabinet's press office.

"We pay Russia for gas more than we spend on health care per year. We could have increased expenses on health care two- or threefold, if we did not bear this burden," Azarov said.

At the same time the prime minister pointed out that the financing of the health care sector in Ukraine had been increased and that hospitals would be modernized in view of economic growth.

As reported, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych declared that because of disadvantageous gas contracts, signed by Yulia Tymoshenko's government, Ukraine loses 30 billion hryvnias annually.
