The visa regime between Ukraine and Poland will not be canceled at the time of the EURO 2012 European Football Championship, Polish Ambassador to Ukraine Henryk Litwin said at a roundtable meeting in Kyiv on Friday.

"There were expectations from the Ukrainian side that there would be a radical decision at the time of EURO 2012, for example, on the cancellation of visas at this time. But there was speculation. Unfortunately, visas will remain during EURO 2012," he said, UKRINFORM reports.

The ambassador said that it had never been formally stated that visas would be canceled, but the issue concerned technical opportunities for the simplification of border crossing procedures and the acquisition of visas. "Only certain simplification with respect to visas is possible. We are preparing to ensure that fans who have tickets [for EURO 2012 matches] could be able to get visas quickly, with no formal obstacles," Litwin said.

He said that a special agency would be engaged in the issuing of visas to football fans during EURO 2012. At the same time, the ambassador called on fans not to delay this until the last moment, but to contact the Polish embassy as soon as possible.
