The Kyivsky District Court in Kharkiv has started a preliminary hearing of the case on the activities of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko as head of the United Energy Systems of Ukraine (UESU) Corporation.

According to the press service of the Batkivshchyna Party, Yulia Tymoshenko' defense team includes four lawyers Serhiy Vlasenko, Oleksandr Plakhotniuk, Andriy Kozhemyakin and Eugenia Tymoshenko. The former PM herself is absent at the court session.

The court hearing is being attended by journalists and MPs, namely about ten MPs from the Party of Regions and 15-20 opposition members. French Ambassador for Human Rights Francois Zimeray, who arrived in Ukraine for the trial, is also present in the courtroom.

As a reminder, Ukraine's former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko refused to take part in a preliminary hearing the United Energy Systems of Ukraine case, referring to the bad health conditions.
