According the ex-governor, he now lives in a rented apartment and is not limited in moving around the country. If desired, he can go abroad. "But I can be re-arrested on a warrant of Interpol, the effect of which in Italy has been suspended by a court," the politician emphasized.
Avakov said he sees no need and reason to seek any other status, even though his friends and lawyers have advised him to do so.
As reported, on January 26, 2012, the prosecutor's office of Kharkiv region opened a criminal case against former Head of Kharkiv Regional State Administration Arsen Avakov on charges of the illegal transfer of 50 hectares of land.
On March 26, 2012, the former official was arrested in Frosinone (Italy).
On April 12 a court in Italy released Avakov from custody.
