Three Ukrainian companies have been cleared to restart cheese supplies to Russia after their products were checked by Russia’s food safety inspectors, Ukraine’s Economic Development and Trade Minister Petro Poroshenko said on Tuesday.

"Renewal of cheese supplies to Russia will let to reduce the deficit of bilateral trade balance. The cheese war or whatever you call it is over," Poroshenko said in Moscow after the talks with Russia’s sanitary chief Gennady Onishchenko.

Poroshenko also informed that the sides agreed upon requirements to the quality of products and to cheese producers.

"As soon as enterprises restart the production meeting the agreed requirements they can renew supplies to Russia," the Minister added.

Kiev and Moscow agreed in early April to use a laboratory in Ukraine to monitor the compliance of Ukrainian cheese quality with Russian requirements.
