President Viktor Yanukovych welcomes the fact that the Verkhovna Rada has passed the new Criminal Procedure Code.
"The new Code substantially strengthens the protection of citizens. We have now introduced the equality of rights of prosecution and defense to the legal field of Ukraine," the President said.
Viktor Yanukovych also noted that the passed Code would be re-submitted to international experts for checking if the amendments made to it by MPs are in line with modern democratic standards. After that, the President said, he would sign it into law.
