Ukraine must prove it is capable of hosting sporting events at a high level, President Viktor Yanukovych said at a meeting dedicated to Ukraine’s preparation to bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics. "The task we are facing is not an easy one: to win the competition and convince international sporting organizations that Ukraine is able to host such a high-level competition," he said, presidential press office reports.

The President expressed confidence that the experience Ukraine has gained during the preparation for EURO 2012 would surely prove useful when preparing for the 2022 Winter Olympics. "We understand that on the successful holding of EURO 2012 in Ukraine will largely depend the International Olympic Committee’s opinion of Ukraine when making the decision," said Viktor Yanukovych.

He also said that in order to bid for hosting the Olympics, Ukraine must prepare the project’s feasibility study by the end of the second quarter of this year. "Under the tender procedures an Austrian company is already working in Ukraine, which has extensive experience in designing the Winter Olympics. We will soon have information on the works to be done, and conclusions made on all the areas of work, including on weather conditions," he said.
