Improving citizens’ living standards, their welfare, and social protection is an important priority of the government, President Viktor Yanukovych said at a meeting with candidates for district state administrations chairmen, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

The President expressed certainty that reforms in various areas of life of the state that are surely to continue in 2013 would contribute to the success of this work.

Also, the President emphasized that any steps in the framework of reforms program should be based on well-weighed decisions of the government. “I warn you against populism or an excessive wish to show that you are the first,” he said, reminding that in pursuit to implement certain state programs the overzealous officials have been unreasonably closing schools, hospitals, etc. “They were approaching the issue unwisely. I warn you against it,” Viktor Yanukovych said.

The President emphasized the importance of district state administration chairmen always being attentive, responsible, and careful in performing their duties, because they represent the government on the ground. “Your duty is to work with common people and make sure that they feel that the government cares for their problems and solves them on the ground. Much depends on you,” he said.
