"The main task today is to sign and ratify the association agreement between Ukraine and the EU, an integral component of which is the provision on a free trade area," Poroshenko said.
In his opinion, "this is fundamentally important for Ukraine's future economic development as a competitive, dynamic and innovative 'player' on the global market."
Poroshenko also drew Teixeira's attention to the importance of speeding up the work on the technical and legal verification of the texts of the association agreement, which was initialed in Brussels on March 30. He said that the Ukrainian government, on its part, was ready speed up the process of signing the agreement.
"We are considering the association agreement as a comprehensive program of large-scale domestic reforms in all spheres of the political, economic and social life of the state and as the modernization of the country," Poroshenko said.
He said that now, before the entry into force of the agreement, the Ukrainian side is taking measures related to the preparation of the domestic market for the working conditions as part of the free trade area with the EU and that work is constantly being conducted to bring Ukrainian legislation into line with EU standards.
The sides also discussed problematic issues in the receipt by Ukraine of macro-financial assistance from the EU and other budgetary support to reform economic sectors.
