Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko believes that Swedish companies have significant prospects in modernization of the Ukrainian gas transport system and privatization of the Ukrainian energy facilities.

He expressed this opinion during his meeting with State Secretary to the Minister for Trade of Sweden Gunnar Oom in Sweden Tuesday, the press service of the economic development ministry reported, according to UKRINFORM.

"According to the minister, it is promising to Swedish companies to get involved in projects in the areas of information technology, shipbuilding, agriculture, processing industry, utilities, etc.," the press service says.

As a result of the negotiations, an important agreement was reached that Sweden will continue to support Ukraine on the path of European integration, in particular with regard to the harmonization of national legislation to EU norms and standards, as well as will facilitate the creation of an FTA between Ukraine and the EU, and encourage Swedish businesses to actively work on the potentially attractive Ukrainian market, in particular, to take an active part in modernization of this country's economy.

The Swedish party welcomed Ukraine's initiative to evaluate the effectiveness of using Swedish development assistance in Ukraine and redirecting resources from inefficient projects to the energy sector, in particular, ongoing and new projects for improving energy efficiency and environmental protection in the framework of EU E5P (the so-called Swedish Initiative).
