Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko is urging all opposition groups to unite into one political party to ensure victory in the parliamentary elections and power change in Ukraine.

"Today I ask and beg you for one thing only: unite, forget about all the discrepancies, about ambitions, about narrow party interests, about ideological differences. Lock them up, give them to your opponents, lose them, hide them, throw them away and forget about them. This is the last thing you need today. They are expired goods. They’re not necessary,” Yulia Tymoshenko wrote in her address to the delegates at today’s Batkivshchyna party congress,Tymoshenko's official website reports.

Yuriy Lutsenko's People's Self-Defense (PSD) has supported Yulia Tymoshenko's call for uniting the opposition and merged with the Batkivshchyna Party, reads an address of the PSD leader Yuriy Lutsenko to the delegates of the 11th Congress of the Batkivshchyna Party, read out by his brother Serhiy.

The 11th Congress of the Batkivshchyna Party convened at the Teacher's House in Kyiv on Friday.
143 delegates are taking part in the congress. First deputy chairman of Batkivshchyna Oleksandr Turchynov, first deputy chairman of the BYuT-Batkivshchyna parliamentary faction Serhiy Sobolev, as well as Front for Change leader Arseniy Yatseniuk and People's Rukh leader Borys Tarasiuk, are present at the congress.

According to Turchynov, the congress is also attended by representatives of foreign diplomatic missions and public organizations.
