The attention of veterans' organizations should not be focused solely on the issues of social protection, President Viktor Yanukovych said at the 25th anniversary of the Ukrainian Veterans’ Organization celebration.
He expressed confidence that veterans and their organizations on the ground should carry out real public control over the observance of legislation, such as the relevant orders of the President and the Government. "It is essential that central and local government involved veterans in the work of advisory and consultative bodies, public hearings and discussions on draft laws and decisions of the Government and local authorities," he said.
According to Viktor Yanukovych, during the years of its existence, the Ukrainian Veterans’ Organization proved its efficiency and ability to solve a wide range of issues. "Your patience, consistency, and commitment to filling veterans’ lives with meaning and addressing their needs have received due recognition in our country and abroad. Your readiness to defend the rights of pensioners in close cooperation with the government deserves the highest praise," the President said.
