The State Financial Inspection of Ukraine revealed groundless payments to the amount over UAH 4.5 million to Chornobyl cleanup veterans. Law-enforcement bodies instituted 19 criminal proceedings on the basis of the inspection data, the Inspection's official website reads, according to UKRINFORM.

“Specialists of the State Financial Inspection of Ukraine revealed groundless payments to persons with a status of affected as a result of an accident at the Chornobyl NPP to the total amount of over UAH 4.5 million. Thus, during auditing of separate issues of financial-economic activities of the Pension Fund of Ukraine and its territorial subdivisions, 102 cases were revealed of determining a status and setting pensions based on certificates of medical-social expert commissions, which were not registered at registers of relevant medical-social expert commissions or registered for other citizens. In compliance with those certificates, pensions were granted and paid to the abovementioned amount. Such violations were revealed at Pension Fund administrations in Zhytomyr, Odesa, Sumy, Kirovohrad, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia regions and Kyiv,” the statement reads.

In addition, cases were established of awarding and payment of pensions to total amount of UAH 416,000 to citizens, whose identification documents were declared invalid, fixing and payment of pensions to 42 citizens to the amount of UAH 891,000 due to presentation of unreliable information about total salary due for mitigation of Chornobyl NPP disaster consequences.
