Ukraine is planning to start the construction of an international research and technology center at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant this year, with the assistance of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), an advisor to the president and the head of the department of international relations at Ukraine's Presidential Administration Andriy Honcharuk declared, UKRINFORM reported.

“The center's developments will be the property of not only Ukrainian scientists, but also the whole world, because nuclear security is a question of the global development of the world, of which Ukraine and its experience are an integral part," he said.

According to the presidential advisor, the nuclear security summit, which has recently ended in Seoul, was successful for Ukraine.

"We fully achieved all of the objectives facing the country and successfully responded to the challenges currently set by the world to Ukraine," he said.

At the summit, Ukraine announced the fulfillment of its commitments in the sphere of international nuclear security, Honcharuk said.

"All stockpiles of highly enriched uranium were removed to Russia with the assistance of the United States and the IAEA. Our partners in this project and the entire international community praised the responsibility of Ukraine and its contribution to strengthening global nuclear safety," the presidential advisor said.

He said that Ukraine would continue to play a leading role in the fight for nuclear safety worldwide.
