Ukraine highly appreciates the role of the IAEA in coordinating international efforts to enhance physical nuclear safety in the world, President Viktor Yanukovych said at the 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.
"The IAEA recommendations on nuclear security accumulate the advanced world experience and are essential for the development of regulations at the national level," said Viktor Yanukovych.
He noted that Ukraine, for its part, is ready to share the unique experience it has accumulated during the period of observation of the Chornobyl NPP.
The President also praised the effective activity of the IAEA to maintain a database on incidents of illicit trafficking and other unauthorized activities and events involving nuclear and other radioactive material, and encouraged other states to participate more actively in the exchange of relevant information.
