Physical protection of nuclear facilities, nuclear and other radioactive materials, and the related infrastructure is Ukraine's key objective in combating nuclear terrorism, President Viktor Yanukovych said in his speech at the 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit, according to the presidential press office.

"Nuclear terrorism threat assessment in Ukraine shows that there is low danger of such threat to our country under normal conditions," he said.

However, the President noted, over the past two years Ukraine has been making significant efforts to prevent terrorist attacks in the context of preparation for the EURO 2012 finals.

"Our country develops a system of radiation monitoring at the border and, with the help of its international partners, its own scientific and technical capabilities in nuclear forensic examination – an essential component of nuclear safety allowing to determine the source of nuclear materials seized," Viktor Yanukovych said.
