All the hazardous waste will be removed from the territory of Ukraine in 2012, for which the state budget allocated 250 million UAH and an additional of 70 million UAH will be provided by the regions, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Mykola Zlochevsky told a press conference on Monday, UKRINFORM reported.

"We are planning to complete this year the removal from the entire territory of Ukraine of obsolete pesticides and herbicides, which have remained from the Soviet times. In the first place, the regions that host EURO 2012 will be cleaned," Zlochevsky said.

During 2010-2011, more than 32.6 thousand tons of hazardous waste was exported from Ukraine for inactivation, which is 6.7 times more than in all the years of independence, he said.

The minister also noted that in 2012, a considerable emphasis will be placed on restricting the use of polyethylene in retail trade and the prohibition of phosphate-based detergents. It is expected that the government will develop the relevant bills before the summer and the Verkhovna Rada will consider them in the autumn.
